Using the same ringtone with your coworkers, employees, friends or family members can be confusing. Or maybe you find that the default ringtones of cheap Android phones are not for you. Android allows you to change the ringtone and assign a custom tune to a specific contact. When your Android phone's default ringtone is too basic, like everyone else, or doesn't suit your personality, change it. You can choose one of the preset ringtones or choose a custom tune from the file manager.
Change ringtone of Android phone
Most manufacturers provide some ringtones along with their offers. Take the Google Pixel as an example here.
Swipe up from the home screen to open the app drawer menu.
Open the Settings app.
Select Phone Ringtone.
Select any ringtone to play. Tap Save in the top right corner to set it as your default ringtone.
If you want to import and set a custom ringtone from the phone memory, follow the steps below.
Go to Phone Ringtone menu in Settings (see steps above).
Select My Sounds.

Change the ringtone on your Samsung Galaxy
Samsung Android One UI uses the More Settings menu. The steps to change ringtones are different on Galaxy phones.
Not everyone likes Samsung's built-in ringtones. If you are one of them, set a custom tone by following the steps below.
Open the Ringtone menu in the One UI settings (check the steps above).
Press + in the upper right corner.
You can search for a custom ringtone at the top, or use the navigation menu at the bottom to find it in your device's folders.
You will find your imported ringtone in the Customize section of the Ringtone menu. Tap the red icon next to a tone to delete it.

Go to Settings > Sound & Vibration > Phone Ringtone. You will see a list of system ringtones to choose from. Tap an option to preview the ringtone and select it to set as the ringtone for your phone calls. If you have a dual-SIM phone, you'll have the option to set separate ringtones for both SIM cards, so you have a way to easily identify the number you're receiving calls from.
To add ringtones to your Android device
You can add custom ringtones to your device manually or using personalization apps. If you download or transfer a song or ringtone to your phone, be sure to save it in your phone's Downloads or Media folder.
Go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Phone ringtone > Internal memory ringtone. You will see a list of all downloaded audio files saved on your phone. Select the ringtone you downloaded and set it as the default ringtone for your phone.
Remember that the steps may vary depending on the phone you have. On OnePlus devices running Android 12, you'll see a section for custom ringtones in your phone's Ringtones menu. Tap From this device and select the audio file you want to set as your ringtone. Your phone automatically organizes the audio files stored on your phone into categories such as Music and Recordings.
On a Samsung phone running Android 12, go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Ringtone and tap the “+” icon in the upper-right corner. Go to the Folders tab to search for files in the Downloads folder on your device.
You can also use personalization apps like Zedge to find great lists of custom ringtones for your Android device. Open the app, tap the hamburger menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner, then tap Ringtones. Select a ringtone and press the download button. You'll have the option to set the sound as your ringtone directly from the app or download it to your phone's media folder.
To change the ringtone for a specific contact on Android
Open the Contacts app or go to Phone > Contacts. Tap the contact for which you want to set the ringtone, scroll down to Settings > Ringtone, and set the ringtone for that specific person.
Again, the steps may vary depending on your phone. On a OnePlus device running Android 12, select the contact, tap the three vertical dots icon in the top right corner, and go to Set ringtone.
Select the contact on your Samsung Android 12 phone and tap Edit in the bottom bar. Tap Show more and scroll to Ringtones to set an individual ringtone for a specific contact.
